Raw Tonight, The Gambling on Everything Changing Edition
Hello and welcome to Raw Tonight, your A-List commentary on the A-List Superstars themselves, The Miz and John Morrison.
I’m your Raw Tonight hostess, The Zen Master of Amazing, The Awesomely Enlightened One, FemmeJoMo and I almost went to bed early because I thought the last 15 minutes of Raw last night were going to be boring. Thankfully, I didn’t.
NOW ON WITH THE SHOW…
Raw Roulette? More like Capital Punishment, the Return. It seemed like almost every contest was a rematch from the PPV. Why would they want us to relive that terrible event? Who did we fans anger? I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember giving anyone the cold shoulder.
MONEY IN THE BANK ANNOUNCEMENT…
The participants for the Money in the Bank match were announced last night. Miz is in it, along with Alex Riley, Alberto Del Rio, Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, and Jack Swagger. No John Morrison. The story that he will be out two more months is in fact, true. Sad night for us MoFo’s who were hoping the MITB would finally be his. This has not been the Summer of John Morrison.
It has also not been the Summer of The Miz, who lost his WME Championship and a number of matches to Alex Riley. Another Money in the Bank match win would change the losing spiral he’s on.
A TORNADO TAG TEAM MATCH…
Miz was part of a Raw Roulette tag match with Rey Mysterio, Jack Swagger, and Alex Riley. The stipulation was that it would be a tornado tag, which means all the participants can be in the ring at the same time. So it was Riley and Mysterio against Miz and Swagger. A-Ry’s push continues. He is in this tag match with three former world champions.
The match starts off with the arrival of The Awesome One. He came to the ring with a bit of swagger and intensity. He also got a nice little pop. There were a number of “Miz is Awesome” signs. Each week, I see a few more. Maybe we fans will end up turning him face yet. Swagger comes out next looking just as determined as Miz. After a nice bro hug, Alex Riley comes out to that bad ass theme song of his and stares down the Miz. Rey Mysterio comes out, but who cares. I wish he wasn’t in this match at all. I wanted Evan Bourne instead.
But this hints at the upcoming feuds, which I think we will see get started during the RAW MITB Ladder Match. Miz and Mysterio. Riley and Swagger. I think Miz feuding with Mysterio is slumming, but Swagger and Riley will be great.
The match starts with A-Ry and Miz going at in one half of the ring and Swagger and Mysterio in the other. It started out as a brawl and remained one for most of the match. Miz gave A-Ry a bunch of punishment outside the ring.
Miz and Swagger worked pretty well as a team and tried some double team offense. Their try at The Doomsday Device didn’t work out too well, but the press slam into a gut buster on Mysterio did.
The move of the match goes to Riley. He jumped up into the corner and hip tossed Miz from the top rope to the mat. It’s something I haven’t seen in a while and new to WWE only fans. I don’t recall him doing it at all during NXT. Very impressive. He got a good pop for it too.
Near the end, they break into Miz/Mysterio and Riley/Swagger. Also, there were many botched attempts at the 619. I really dislike that move. The set up for it is always so obvious and it’s annoying.
The match ended after Riley and Mysterio double teamed Swagger. Rey got the pin. Thankfully, it wasn’t against Miz. He’s been on the losing end a bit too much lately.
Also, Riley is looking more and more comfortable in the ring and as a face. This feud with Miz is a definite boon to his career. I expected it to push Miz even more as a heel and it’s not really working. I think that the fans are ready for an “anti-hero” character to cheer for, ala Stone Cold. Could the Miz be it?
GREATEST PROMO SINCE AUSTIN 3:16…
And as a wrestling fan, I have to mention the CM Punk promo. It was amazing. I felt the same way I did when I heard the Austin 3:16 speech after Stone Cold won the King of the Ring in 1996. You get that shiver down the spine that tell you everything, and I mean everything, from this point on will change - and for the better.
THE CLOSING CREDITS…
After Raw last night, the Raw episode for next week was taped, since the stars will be in Australia on tour. I won’t spoil it here, but it will be interesting.
Remember, in life, there are winners and there are losers. The difference? The winners own the awesome, like I do. The losers don’t.
Be Jealous!!
